    P0871 P0700 Codes?

I'm currently 250 miles from home for work in Yuma, AZ.

I unfortunately had to drive my POV.

The truck was running flawlessly; this morning, when I was leaving work, the truck would not shift out of 1st gear.

There was no CEL at this time.

The truck would finally shift to what I believe was 4th gear at around 2100rpm and 20 or so mph.

I limped the truck back to the hotel I was staying at, turned off the engine, and re-started it.

When i then put it in drive, I saw the number 4 next to the D symbol (my lockout switch on the shifter does not work and has not worked since ive owned the truck).

The truck would act as if in neutral.

I cleared the P0700 that has not come up.

The truck went back to holding 1st gear until 2100ish rpm.

I limped it back to work with the same issues (1st gear to 4th at 2100 RPM).

Now, it's showing the P0871 code.

    OD Pressure Switch rationality.

I am stumped because there have been no signs of slippage or abnormal shifts until this morning when I left work.

What is the fix for this?

I have access to minimal tools, and a tow home is out of the question because of the distance.

Google has returned many possible issues, from a pressure switch to a valve body to a whole transmission.

I am just trying to narrow it down so I can at least get the truck home.

When I clear the code, the trans continues to be in "limp mode," and the light will return after a bit.

Truck is a 07.5 6.7L Cummins 236k mile, Magtec hightec pan.

Deleted/tuned running RaceME Ultra box tunes with transmission tuning.

Before making the trip, I did a fluid and filter change.

Trans fluid was dirty, but I didn't see any metal flakes.

Transmission has been worked on at some point before i purchased it.

It has a blue TRQ converter and what looks like a valve body plate.

Other than that, I am unsure what has been or has not been done to it.

Update- I did check the fluid level in the transmission, and it was good.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Alex

My knowledge and experience with the 68RFE are minimal, so hopefully, someone with more experience will chime in.

I have attached the troubleshooting information for the P0871 code.

You can only check the wiring and connectors in a hotel parking lot with limited tools.

I would research for a reliable, highly recommended transmission shop in the area unless you have one in mind at home.

    Please keep us posted.

    Re: P0871 P0700 Codes?

P0871 typically means the valve body needs to be replaced.

It can also be wiring harness issues.

They tend to rub through behind the valve cover area on trucks with a TCM separate from the ecm.

If you drive it too much with a bad valve body, it will burn up the over-drive clutch.

I opened up my transmission today.

I replaced the valve body with a Randy's transmissions Babymaker 1000.

I found signs of excessive clutch material or any metal in the pan.

Oddly enough, a few days after I started having problems, transmission shifted to normal again.

I think it was just the solenoid going bad.

To my surprise, when i opened it up, it looked like this has, at a minimum, a billet drum and center support.

I'll try and attach a photo.

After everything was back together, I relearned and tried re-tuning the transmission for higher line pressure.

For some reason, I could not get the TCM to accept the tune.

It kept losing comms with the TCM and failing to take the tune.

I'm not sure what the issue is since I could access the transmission previously.

    Do you have any thoughts?

RaceME Ultra is the tuner I'm using.

Have you tried communicating with a scan tool and cleared all trouble codes?

I can access the TCM with my scan tool and clear the codes.

Anytime I’ve tried to reflash the TCM, it fails and triggers the lost comms with the TCM code.

It's not even letting me revert it to stock.

Check the battery voltage, and I see you are running a RaceME Ultra with Box Tunes and transmission tuning.

Do you have any technical support options?

I tried it several times with a battery tender hooked up to ensure that wasn't the issue.

    Voltage was at 14.

I plan to reach out to RaceME on Monday when they are open.

    Re: P0871 P0700 Codes?

I have a big hunch it's because of a lack of voltage.

I had a similar scenario: I hooked a charger up to the driver battery, and it finally took.
