Thread: Headlight Upgrades?

    Re: Headlight Upgrades?

My experience has been with the following lighting.

Morimoto xb fogs: Nice upgrade, but not as good as Rigid dual dot fogs.

Retrofitted projectors: Best light output with 6k; sealing was problematic and fogged. It took three attempts, and the blast gave out. It was all Morimoto gear.

Morimoto headlights: not as good as hid, however are plug-in-play and no fogging.

If on the cheap, I would suggest rigid dual dot fogs and a led bulb for stock halogen beams. Yes, the LED bulbs are not doing much, but the rigids can be adjusted to a good low-beam pattern.

If you are willing to experiment and tinker, go retrofit.

To set it and forget, go for replacement LED headlights.

I only went with Morimoto over others as I got a better price.

For reference, currently installed are XB fogs not hooked up, rigid dually following to tow hooks, and XB headlights.

Now the headlight adjuster on xb’s are crap; they hold, but adjusting them stinks, and you do not want to overdo it. For my other ride, I will be trying Baja designs dot pods. They seem to have reviews.

    Re: Headlight Upgrades?

I am looking for some help and suggestions with the installation.

I went with Morimoto XBs and got everything wired up, but now I can't seem to fit the XB headlights back into the truck.

They don't seem to want to line up correctly.

    Any suggestions?

    I'm getting seriously frustrated.

Could you possibly get a couple of pictures to help out with fitment?

I don't have experience with Morimoto, but it would help others familiarize themselves with them.

It's the white clip in the fender well, which seems the piece on the XB might not be long enough to lock it into place.

When I push the lights in to secure them in place, I can't pull down on the clip to lock them in.

Have you compared your stock and XB lights to see if they are the same length?

It’s been a while since I removed my lights.

I remember pushing up on the white tab locks them into place.

I could be wrong, which I have been known too occasionally. LOL

I got the passenger side, but the driver side is being a F**CKr.

God help me if I need to adjust these things!

    **UPDATE**

Finally, with a break and some prayers, I got it in.

    VERY difficult!

I will say the adjustment for the up/down is very good.

I didn't have to remove the lights to adjust.

Now I have to check why my dash cam plugged into the cigarette lighter isn't working.

    Awesome!

    Glad you got them in.

Post some pics when you get the chance.

    Re: Headlight Upgrades?

A bit late to the party since you've already got new headlights.

I know this is subjective. It sounds like you have a lower trim with the halogens.

I've always thought the led reflectors in my Laramie were decently impressive; however, the fog lights were severely lacking.

I swapped out my OEM-led fogs for the Baja designs kit from CJC Off-road.

I got the sport version, the middle between dot and pro.

You can add amber lenses if you want them not to be white.

They have the scatter lenses and throw some serious light.

I don't get flashed by others when using them, either.

    Re: Headlight Upgrades?

After about a week, I am thrilled with the new headlights and fog lights.

Went with Morimoto XB and amber fog lights (WIDE).

Besides the challenge with the (white locking tab) when installing them, everything went pretty smoothly.

I am always working night shifts in the dark this time of year, and honestly, after adjusting the aim of both headlights and fogs, I don't even feel the need for my high beams!

Also, I haven't gotten flashed one time. This all started after hitting a deer with the beater vehicle a month ago, and I felt like if I had two more seconds to react, I could have avoided the collision and thus looked into lighting improvement at night.

I will post pics when I get a chance to get some.
