68RFE Trans Stutter / Hiccup / Slip / Or Nothing At All?

Hello all, I was left stranded earlier this year when the spin-on filter in my 68RFE came loose.

Since then, I have been on edge and a little paranoid about my pickup.

This leads me to my issue, which isn't easy to explain.

I have noticed an odd hiccup-like sensation while traveling at highway speeds.

It's kind of like only the rear axle hit a bump.

At first, I thought it could be attributed to the road conditions, but I have noticed it on all sorts of highway surfaces, so I don't think that's what's causing it.

    So My Questions:
    1. Can the transmission slip at highway speeds in the 5th and 6th gears?
    2. If the transmission is slipping, would it throw a code?
    3. Could driveline slop be made apparent by the cruise control adjustments to maintain speed?

I know I didn't explain it well, but it's a very odd feeling and difficult to put into words.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I know it's best to get a good scan tool onto the transmission, and the MM3, " if equipped, " may not see or show a CEL or code.

The Achilles heel on the 68s is their 6th and, I think, 5th gear.

6th is paper-thin clutch packs for the OD compared to other automatics.

There is little info to read, but it is good info.

    That is a good article.

It has lots of info I didn’t know before and gives ideas when rebuilding is time.

I checked for codes with AlfaOBD, and no currently set codes.

Will it always throw a code if it is slipping?

I wish I could help more on the 68s as I only know about issues I have personally had with mine.

    https://nextgendiesel.com/blogs/tran...y-and-upgrades

It's a bit to read, but I am curious if it could have something to do with the valve body possibly acting up.

I want to say that I heard it can slip, but it has to trigger enough to set a hard code to trigger a DTC.

Please don't quote me on that, but I think there are soft codes that can be seen as well.

I'm unfamiliar with Alpha and its capabilities. It would show hidden codes, but it might be worth finding a higher-grade scan tool or dropping it into a local "well-known" transmission shop to check on codes and possible troubleshooting issues.

What's your Line pressure on the trans?

    No problem.

I am asking for a lot with a bad description; it’s almost a have-to-feel-it kind of thing.

I have a revmax valve body, so I hope it’s not acting up.

Trans line pressure always matches the demanded pressure.

I will have to pay attention to it to see if it changes when this strange feeling occurs.

That won't be easy, though, because it happens so intermittently.

I think I’ll call revmax and see if they have any input.

I had a similar issue with mine.

Felt like the rear end was running over the warning strips coming up to a stop sign.

It usually only did it when the truck first got out on the road, though.

After a few minutes of driving, it would stop. It only done it in 5th and 6th gear.

    Fully stock 68RFE.

The dealer claimed it needed a software update.

Hasn't done it since the update.

I am bringing this back up.

I am getting an even more noticeable stutter in the 4th and 5th gears at higher RPM right before it shifts.

I know this is vague, but maybe one of the experts here has an idea of what I can look for.

    Thanks.

That website made me think of torque converter.

I'm not surprised but also not happy about it.
