After reading all of this, I may stick with my 2012 rig a bit longer.

My only question is how the recall would look when trying to get the truck registered.

Luckily, Texas is doing away with the annual inspection, so hopefully, not doing the recall shouldn't cause too much of an issue.

I don't plan on selling my truck anytime soon; I dumped way too much into it to start over with a new one.

They can see the footprint if the software is updated. (not what type, just how many updates)

I can read that info on my AlfaOBD tool (footprint)
    Thanks for the reply.

I am still confused about what that means simply because I am thick-headed.

Let's say a fellow with an MM3 Tune has his tune erased by this recall.

Will the ECM be locked out now, or can the fellow retune using MM3 after the recall?

    Thanks again!

The way programmers are, one ECU per programmer; otherwise, a guy buys one, tunes all his buddies, and MM3 goes bankrupt.

    So they are VIN-locked.

The OE tune also has an ID number.

If said fellow was to get his engine ECU flashed without offloading his tune, his tune would be erased and gone, so now his tuner is garbage.

So offload the tune, return the vehicle to total stock, and tune it entirely.

Dealer does update; you get it home, upload it, and tune back in.

We dont do uploads without permission from customers (I am not a Mopar dealer tech, but this all works the same way).

    Recall or not.

2010 Dodge 2500 SLT CCLB 4WD G56 Cummins 6.7 turbo diesel, 3.42 LSD. Add ons: Banks Monster Ram, Grid heater delete, Spyntec Free Spin Kit with Warn hubs (62672) Laramie Alloys (includes spare), "Powerwagon" Flares, Powerwagon bed decal (4X4 off road) OE Ram mudflaps, OE Slush Mats, OE Clearance Lamps, Geno's shift knob in black, 5" DPF back with muffler delete, spray in bedliner, OE brake controller, Durafit Seat Covers, Pro Tech Toolbox, Speed Turtle, Upfitter switches, Ham Radios, 8 Antennas, headache rack, emergency light bar,....

    Thank you for the explanation.

    Appreciate it!

I can say, however, that not all Mopar dealer techs are as courteous.

This same fellow took his truck to the dealer under an extended warranty for a bad thermostat and temp sensor without unloading his tunes.

When he got it back from the dealer, they flashed his ECM without permission.

He was able to retune it, though.

    Does that sound right?

I saw this video on YouTube and posted the link for reference.

Let me save you 9 minutes of your life you won't get back.

He fills his DEF from completely empty before and after the recall with 1 box of DEF.

The DEF gauge now reads lower, and he speculated as to why that could be.

Thanks for providing the synopsis of the video.

I found the comments for this video on YouTube interesting and entertaining.
