Well Fudge - 8 Wheel Studs Sheered Off!

    This happened to me today.

Thank goodness I was on a 45 mph two-lane road.

All eight studs completely sheered off and damaged the fender a little.

I guess that’s what I get, taking my truck to a local backwoods tire shop to get my tires rotated.

I believe the air gun kid torqued the crap out of those nuts so tight that it cracked a couple of the studs.

I had them rotated a few months ago.

I put on a new wheel hub bearing and rotor and removed the inner fender well and wheel flare to try and straighten the fender out so the door could open.

It was a long and draining day!

    Whew!

Dang dude, you got lucky with just minimum damage done.

Can you hold the shop liable for this scenario?

Glad you didn't have a bigger accident or collide with another rig.

I wish I could, but it would be hard to prove, being it’s been a few months since I had them rotated.

I’m just glad I wasn’t on the interstate doing 70.

    Bummer.

I'm glad you are okay and have minimal damage; as you said, it could have been much worse.

You should check the torque on the other wheels and look for stretched threads.

I rotated the tires and checked the studs on the other wheels.

All looked good, and I torqued them all to 135 ft-lbs.

    Wow, man!!

    That's crazy.

I'm glad you and no one else got hurt, and the damage wasn't worse.

You might want to replace the other studs.

It would stink, but it's way better than having another event.

I would still call or visit the shop and let them know that they have an idiot on the payroll.
