Aftermarket Cab Lights?

Are there any good aftermarket cab lights out there?

I see Recon all over the internet, but I see many bad reviews for them.

I have considered getting ones with smoked lenses, but I am unsure if there is anything of good quality.

Do you have cab lights on your truck now?

Mine came with cab lights OEM.

I’ve used various aftermarket lights, including Recon, and they all suck.

Either they will leak or burn out prematurely.

I ended up going back to OEM cab lights and installing LED bulbs.

I wanted that smoked appearance also on my truck, but it’s not worth the hassle of having to replace the lights or fix water damage.

I installed a cab light on my 1 ton a few weeks ago.

I went with the OEM style with LED white lights.

Drilling holes in a perfect roof was nerve-racking, but everything lined up and looked good.

The job itself wasn't bad to do. I had to drop the headliner and 1/4 and 7/8 holes and run the wires, and they tie into a connector on the side of the passenger dash, and I got them off Amazon.

Also, I might mention that OEM lights have a very slight curve to give a tight seal on the cab.

Aftermarket lights claim they are precisely like OEM, but they are not.

The bottom of aftermarket lights are entirely flat.

Getting aftermarket lights to sit flush where the cab slightly curves is hard.

I’ve used thicker rubber, foam gaskets, and even silicone with aftermarket lights, but eventually, they constantly leak.

Yes, my truck has cab lights already installed.

I think the smoked cab lights look fantastic.

I may have to do a bit more thinking about it.

Maybe there's a way to achieve a cool look with stock lights still.

Yeah, I agree smoke looks good.

It did on my truck until it didn’t.

The Recons smoke LEDs I had on it leaked, and you could hardly tell the lights were on.

I went with another set of lights (eBay), which I can’t remember the brand name, but they had 30 LED lights inside each one and looked good for about a week.

Then condensation started building up inside them after it rained and leaking into the cab.

I put these smoked LEDs on my ‘16 3500 back in August 2019.

None have burned out, and there have been no leaks so far.

I can’t remember if they are perfectly flat on the bottom or have a slight curve.

My truck sits outside year-round.

It might be worth a try.

I may have wasted $30, but I ordered a cheap set of smoked ambers.

If they leak or the bulbs burn out, I'll throw the stock ones back on.

The lenses on mine are yellowing, so if I don't like the ones I bought, I plan to get new OEM ones anyway.

I saw somewhere where people tinted tail lights with a light coat of black paint and clear.

Maybe someone could do the same with OEM cab lights, if that's a thing.

I don't want something that looks cheap.

Like others, I installed the factory kit from Mopar, tough drilling three large holes for each lamp, one at 7/8" and two at 1/4" for each lamp.

Kit came with a template; I center punched those and put a small dimple in the sheet metal, slightly dented down.

Relax, the large hole, this dent was eliminated, and smaller holes were drawn back to flat.

The downward keeps the drill right in place.

I only use Irwin uni bits, which are best for these deals, nice clean round holes, and the next step actually debuts the hole.

I had white tough-up paint on hand.

My lamps are white in color with amber bulbs.

With my white truck, you dont even notice it has them.

I do like the amber glow on my hood at night.

I did buy a complete set of spare lamps in amber but decided to keep the white ones.

I originally got the RECON OLED junk.

They didn't last two months - and RECON's warranty for 12V equipment is only 30 days.

That tells you something!

I've had these on for over two years with zero issues. And they're about 1/10th the price of the RECON junk.
