    Cab Water Leak?

So, I just found that I have a water leak at the left rear of my cab.

I had some extra clothes tucked under the back cushion, and they were soaked.

    Has anyone encountered this?

I'm just trying to limit the wild goose chase.

Thanks for the help in advance.

Oh, I do not have cab marker lights, and I do have a sliding back glass.

    Re: Cab Water Leak?

A lot of trucks have been known to leak at the third brake light and also at the vents, which are mounted behind the rear seat on the back of the cab.

I had to replace the cab lights.

They had gotten old and cracked.

I also had it show up in the back corner of the headliner.

If you have a sunroof, check the drain tubes, too; they get blocked and overflow, which shows up in the back corners of the cab also.

    No sunroof or cab lights.

I will check the third brake light and vent.

Thanks for the info, and I will update you soon.

    Re: Cab Water Leak?

Mine was wet at both rear corners of the headliner.

I pulled the 3rd brake light out and saw evidence of a water leak (rust on the bulb).

On my 2016, a metal channel under the 3rd brake light leads to the sides.

The headliner gets wet near the rear corners if the brake light leaks.

The foam gasket on mine was more like a sponge than a gasket.

A small amount of water would squeeze out if you pressed on it.

Pretty easy to check, Phillips screwdriver and two screws to pull the brake light out and have a look.

    Check the cab vents.

I had the 3rd brake light leak and fixed that, but then later found items under the rear seat were wet.

Both cab vents were completely trash as the flaps were gone, allowing water to enter.

It's an easy fix, but you must remove the rear seats.

    My pic won't post right.

Welcome aboard, the water leak crowd.

Yes, there are loads of areas.

First, CHMSL is the most critical; get the new gasket.

Next are rear cab baffles, also known as exhaust vents.

These are behind the rear seat backs, and the rear seat back needs to come out to replace or pull the bed back.

In the new, improved part, there are 2, which are replaced with the new part.

Next, slider water drain holes, a clip that holds the slider cable in place must pop out, and a slightly open slider to remove tension.

Under the clip are water drain holes that drain to the outside, two holes. Grab some .060 sting from your line trimmer and poke through the holes.

They exist outside; notice the gap in the rubber seal on the outside.

Make sure no slime is plugging that area up, either.

You may also have a broken butyl seal along the top of the window glass; water spraying will reveal that.

Also, there are drip stains on the inside, but with water in your truck, you will have lots of condensation, which may appear on the glass and run down.

Other items include sunroof leaks, but the rear stop lamp and cab baffles are your priority!

With body computers and networking, we can have water leaks and get them fixed.

Pull carpet to dry or peel back, lift, run a fan, open doors, etc.

A new gasket is a thick, dense rubber foam; old sponge type has been superseded by the factory.
