    Loose Back End?

Several months ago, my truck was in a jack-knife trailer accident.

The trailer/forklift pushed my truck sideways into a curb.

Both rear tires were blown out.

I still had my OEM tires, so I put them on the truck so I could still drive the truck.

I eventually got new tires to fit my OEM wheels.

Since the accident and the replacement of the tires.

The back end of the truck seems to lag what the front of the truck is doing. (fishtailing of sorts).

I had an alignment done, and the technicians couldn't find anything wrong with the front end, and the back seemed tight.

They mentioned that it could be the side walls of the new tires.

I let it go at that; however, it has worsened.

Another scenario is when I accelerate, the truck will pull to the left, and when I let off the accelerator, it will pull back to the right.

The other day, I lifted the truck and looked around myself.

I did find that on the driver's side, the U-bolts that hold the springs to the axle were loose enough that I could squeeze them, and they would give a little.

I thought, OK, this is my problem.

I'll tighten these up, and all will be right.

    Not so much.

The truck still fishtails just as severely as ever and pulls when accelerating.

So, my question or hope is that someone could direct me in a direction to figure out what could have been misaligned, broken, or bent that would have caused my truck not to handle as it should.

Truck - 2013 RAM 2500 ST 4x4 Crew cab, long box 6.7L Cummins., Double R Diesel Mods, Leveling kit.

    Thank you,
    Scott

    Hi badbajawa,

    LT265/70R-17 Toyo Open Country A/T III E

They are the same size as my OEM tires.

    Just different brand

    Re: Loose Back End?

Toyo makes that tire size in 4 different part numbers.

Look at all 4 tires and make sure one, if not all, didn't accidentally get installed as a C load range.

Alright, I highly doubt the tires have anything to do with it.

You can try adjusting air pressure and see if it improves, but that's about it.

Have you had the truck to an alignment shop since the incident?

From the description of the accident, have you checked your axles?

The accel decel thing has me thinking possible axle broke.

Possibly, the limited slip diff is messing up.

Have you checked all the bushings and springs?

    Does the truck track straight?

    Re: Loose Back End?

On my 95 Camaro if the rear axle isn't square it will try to pull into the next lane when your on it.
Then when you let off returns. Feels like it's pulling the other way. (Accel/decel)

If truck hasn't been on an alignment track it needs to be.
    See what your working with.

    Hi badbajawa,

Yes, I have had the truck in for an alignment since the incident.

    They said everything looked fine.

They didn't have to make any adjustments.

    Re: Loose Back End?

    Hi, crazytrain,

    Thank you for your suggestions.

I have been under the truck to inspect the springs and U-bolts.

I would have to set aside a weekend to pull the axles and whatnot to check the other suggestions.

    Thanks
    Scott
