P21B2 Code - After New Injectors?

Hey folks, I'm back again with my basket case Cummins.

Previously, I ran into rail pressure issues, but now I have installed new injectors.

EGTs are way low, and rail pressure is almost spot-on, according to my Solus.

Previous codes were P0191 and P2BAC.

The issue I am running into now is a P21B2 code that keeps returning.

Before I go down the diag tree that lists just about anything being a cause, I wonder if I am missing something small or a procedure I missed with new injectors.

Trim codes were programmed, and the truck feels excellent, but the code was annoying, and I miss having a remote start.

Is any injector break-in procedure or relearning needed for other sensors or equipment?

No break in procedures for the injectors or relearn.

Only thing you would need is a revision for them to work properly "if you changed to a bigger or smaller injector."

Bob has all the PDF's that I'm sure he'll add to troubleshoot.

P21B2 Code - After New Injectors?

    Thanks, Corkey.

I went with all-new stock Bosch units, so there is no change in rates.

The diagnostic piece I did see points at a lot of potential causes, but the first was the MAF value not learned, so that made me think about missed procedures.

Odd stuff, to be sure; thanks for taking a peek.

Unfortunately, I don't have any detailed information on the P21B2 trouble code.

As you mentioned, the common causes are listed below.

I'm unsure how many drive cycles it takes for the MAF sensor to learn, but I would disconnect both batteries to see if that will clear out the stored values.

    • Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor value not learned
    • EGR valve sticking or restricted
    • Thermostat outlet restricted
    • Faulty EGR cooler bypass control valve
    • Faulty EGR airflow control valve
    • Leaking or damaged NOx absorber catalyst

Re: P21B2 Code - After New Injectors?

    I am starting simple.

I'm seeing this code pop a lot for guys that put on new intakes for these early 4th Gens.

Popped off all intake tubing, cleaned, and reseated it all. I'm still on the stock air cleaner setup, but you never know if some extra unmetered air is causing this.

EGR is not overly dirty, and I see the butterfly on the end of the EGR cooler actuate smoothly.

I tightened down the crossover tube clamps.

MAF shows zero KOEO, and I can't get the O2 sensor out, so I'll let that soak in some PB blaster.

I found a cracked leaf spring today.

I sure am winning big with this truck.

Once it's sorted, it'll be a great truck.

I found this while installing a new one-piece driveshaft.

I got sick of doing carrier bearings every 2-3 years on every other truck I've owned, and I am excited to have this installed.

I am coming back to close the loop on this one.

Who knows, maybe someone will run into the same nonsense.

I took out O2S1 before the cat, which was full of soot.

I barely blew on it, and my face turned black.

Don't be like me; use a compressor.

The code has not come back after a couple hundred miles.

    Hopefully it stays that way.
