    Got Regeared?

I got my truck from the shop the other day.

I got it regeared from 3.42 to 4.11, and so far, I've put 300 miles on it, breaking it in.

I have a couple of concerns about it.

First, when I come to a complete stop to turn either left or right, it feels like a posi-track.

You can feel the back end grabbing when I turn.

I'm running 75w-140 gear oil in the rear and 80w-90 in the front.

The shop recommended that to me because I tow a heavy fifth wheel, and the rear end is making a whining noise.

I might wait until it breaks in and fluid changes and talk to the shop about that.

I dont know if that gear oil is affecting the limited slip.

What do your guys think about what fluid?

Should I use it after I break it in, and should I put any limited slip additive in it?

    Thanks

    Re: Got Regeared?

I saw on another site that with these limited slip, with torque or hauling heavy and turning, it will engage the limited slip.

    Is that correct?

    Re: Got Regeared?

I run Red Line 75W90 GL5 with no additive.

I tow plenty heavy and have never had the slightest of issues.

I'd stick to the book recommendations when talking about the limited slip.

If it says additive, then do so.

    If it doesn't, then don't.

    Re: Got Regeared?

I haven’t noticed any of the symptoms you mentioned when towing heavy.

I use the recommended 75W-85 synthetic in mine. With the helical gear limited slip differential, no additives are required.

Hopefully, things will settle down after the break-in.

    Re: Got Regeared?

I regeared, and I believe the shop used a Valvoline gear oil they said they had a good experience with.

Mine did the same thing at slow speeds when turning sharp.

It felt like my front tires were pushing on the asphalt while parking.

They added an LSD additive and fixed the problem.

When the fluid was changed after the break-in period they used the Mopar gear oil, and there was no more chatter, even without additive.

If I remember correctly, it's not the typical LSD that the additive is designed for, so the shop didn't put it in.
