The company I work for deals in cat machinery (mainly forklifts/hilos), but I have access to many things "CAT".
I was curious if anyone would know the cross from the OEM oil filter to a cat or Donaldson oil filter number.
I found a couple that i think would be replacements, but I'm not 100% sure.
P558615 or a DBL7349 (this one is supposed to be better filtration)
The OEM I found is an LF16035 from Fleetguard.

The CAT 396-4596 is also a stock replacement engine oil filter. For the very best engine oil filtration I would recommend adding a bypass filter like the Amsoil EaBP90.

I would say use the Amsoil oil filter.
CAT filters are not what they once were.
What specifically has changed?

The article seems to say they're the exact filters they've always been; there are better alternatives, which I don't think anyone would disagree with.

I agree; there have been recent advances in filter media with the NanoNet and StrataPore technology.

FYI, that cat oem replacement oil filter is not a genuine cat.
The 396 filter is the same as a Baldwin.
I'm not saying there’s anything wrong with it, though.
I’ll stick with the OEM brand or Fleetguard.
Just something about putting a Cat name on a Cummins.
