Thread: Front axle offset vs rear.

    Front axle offset vs rear.

I’ve been looking at my truck lately and I feel like the front tires stick out more than the rears. Am I seeing things or is this supposed to be like this. If so has anyone put 1 inch spacers in the rear to match it to the front.

Yes sir most 4x4 vehichles are like that to my knowledge. Wait until you put a leveling kit on there. Your driver side wheel will stick out more then the passenger side LOL. That's where an adjustable track bar comes in handy. It won't fix it completely but will tuck it back in alot more. Some folks don't even realize it happens. Nothing to worry about as a lot folks have tons of miles on it before ever realizing.

Dudes Diesel essentially hit it on the head, My Chevy Colorado rear axles shifts to the right almost 1.5" (rather annoying, just gunna tri angulated 4 link the rear) But it will always be off a little bit, leveling it out does make it more noticable!

I leveled mine and installed an adjustable trackbar. But the rear definitely looks like it need another 1-1.5 to match with the front.

What I think you are referring to is the wheel track, which is the dimension between the centerline of each tire on the same axle. Adjustable track bars locate the axle from side to side but do not change the track. Generally most vehicles (at least trucks I have owned) have a wider track in the front than the back which from what I understand reduces understeer. This can be adjusted by the offset of the wheels or adding spacers. Changing the wheel offset or adding spacers only on the front or rear axles would adjust the track which would change the handling characteristics of the vehicle.
