You needed to clean the soot out when you took everything apart you won’t get any more build up since you deleted it but I don’t believe it will disappear without help

I agree with Dan. If the soot removed itself from the intake is the because it broke lose and ended up in the the engine. If it's caked that bad you should make plans to remove the intake for a thorough cleaning.

I used Purple Power cleaner, soaked the intake in a small bucket for a few hours, rinsed right away.

Gotcha I can do that. What about the grid and that area anything to be done for it?
The grid can be removed and cleaned. You'll want to use a good strong shop vac and various scraping & brushing tools to get any loose stuff out before you do so all that crap doesn't get away from you. It's a messy job for sure.
