    Cam Options?

i am lookin at a Hamilton Diesel Street 188/208 106.5 LSA Camshaft for my 5.9 24 valve. i have 110 lb valve springs all ready, and a super B turbo, 150 hp injectors, and edge juice with atitude.it is my daily driver and im in the miltary and i have to drive on the highway alot...im not concerd about fuel milage, but i was wondering if it would be a good idea and if it would hurt anything to drive it all the time with a other than stock cam....any advice?

Are you planning to go over 600hp? If not any camshaft isn't worth the coin to put in

Either your building a diesel or a gas engine, lope is not good in a diesel when you hear a diesel loping its actually destroying the engine. What are you planning to do with the truck what is the max hp range you want?

So what makes you think a lope in a diesel is "destroying" it? Any full roller engine lopes. My 02 has had a hot rod VP for over 2.5 yrs with no problems, which causes it to lope. Go to a sled pull or big drag race and most of the purpose built machines have a lope and they are at a slightly higher power level with no problems caused by the lope. Most people just find it annoying.

    Your turn, please explain.

As asked already, what power level are you shooting for?

Yes those purposely built engines are rebuilt every 15 or so pulls, they are not the daily driver.

Lope on a late model cr is not good, it has caused injector tip failures due to the point where the fuel is injected, not in the bowl instead outside the bowl, causes a different burn front and speaking of injecting outside the bowl you will melt the piston, I don't think I need to explain the melting bowl issue to you do I?

There is also cylinder wash down because all these engines that lope usually go through a ton of fuel and the injectors once again are not spraying inside the bowl instead outside of it which the piston is not designed for.

Causes stress on the gear train with the speed up slow down, because its trying to keep a idle and it's unable to do so, look at the gears they are constantly hitting each other when it slacks off and speeds up again.

The gear train failure is also found on the p-pump and vp engines.

Then you can talk fuel economy it will go down, there is a topic on cf saying some idiot did 8mpg better but was called on it very quickly because its proven to use more fuel. Yes sounds good, but can and will take away power and cause engine destruction so in the end do what you want, and better keep a few extra nozzles around for safety sake.

First off his is not a CR, it s VP. The CR's are known for having injector problems anyways, the VP trucks not so much. If you loose an injector in a VP truck then all it does is cause a dead hole, they don't turn into a torch like the CR injectors do. If its a fast lope then I can understand the gear train stress, but on one with a steady slower lope there is little to no gear slapping. I daily drive my truck, take it to sled pulls and the drag strip. The fuel mileage has not changed from when the truck was bone stock to now, dynoed 544HP 1201TQ.

Doesn't matter if its a slow lope or a fast lope its still going to cause gear slapping a smooth idle is still the least destructive to the engine, as for the vp your right it's going to do a dead cyl buy still pump fuel into the engine increasing Cylinder wash down, you still have the issue with fueling outside the bowl,

Drivability takes a nose dive, ontop of it.

Now since you have asked all this, I have to ask why would you want to do it? If it causes more damage then good to the engine?

And for your info my first cr pushed 605hp and 1317 torque, the next engine will be over 900hp and I have done the leg work. So congrats to your 544hp
