    New With Questions

    Hey everyone!

I bought my first Cummins a little over a year ago. It’s a 2015 2500 auto that had 82k miles when I bought it and now has 126k.

The turbo actuator went bad at 80k and was replaced under warranty according to the previous owner.

It’s now bad again so I’m looking at a new turbo.

A friend of mine recommended the Fleece Cheetah turbo and a local diesel shop said it can be bolted in without any tuning or other mods.

The truck is all stock including emissions.

Is it true that even with a little bigger turbo there’s no tuning needed?

Is the Fleece cheetah the way to go?

I tow 5-15k lbs regularly and I’m happy with the power it has so I’m not looking for a 500 HP fire breather.

At some point (not sure I can afford to right now with the turbo) I may delete and tune but it would be more for the transmission tuning than anything.

The 68RFE leaves a lot to be desired.

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!

    John

    Welcome!!

I don't have any personal experience with the Cheetah turbo but they made designed to be a complete drop in factory replacement.

    Re: New With Questions

    Welcome to the forums.

I do not have personal experience but I have read some issues with the Fleece having issues with the actuator not being calibrated correctly. Seems to be hit and miss but its the only aftermarket upgrade VGT I have read that about. Fleece products do have a good overall rep with the forums so I am sure someone can expand on my comments.

I personally am considering either the BD Screamer or the Sinister Diesel Pitbull. They are aftermarket drop-in replacements for the stock turbo just like the Fleece with different turbine wheel and housing upgrades to perform better than the stock turbo and work on a stock truck with all emissions. They also claim to lower EGT's which is a huge benefit imho. Hopefully someone can chime in that can have first hand knowledge or at least more than I can contribute.

City Diesel makes an aftermarket drop-in actuator that does not need calibration and is better than the OEM actuator. It is a less expensive option.

Thank you for your help Aboshan!

I’m not married to the Cheetah turbo it was just what was recommended by one shop.

I’ll look into the other two you suggested.

I didn’t know you could successfully replace just the actuator but I was able to find a thread on here last night where a few people used the City Diesel one and it sounds very promising!

The guy I spoke with said he had tried doing just the actuator once and if only lasted a month.

I’m guessing he used a reman unit after doing some research.

The only thing that stinks about using the City Diesel actuator is once I pull the old one to check the turbo I won’t be able to drive my truck.

Thank you again for the information!
