    O.A.T. VS. H.O.A.T Coolant?

OK, my 2010 RAM takes HOAT, hybrid organic acid technology; it looks pinkish in color.

I have replaced it all at the 30K mark with the exact same stuff, genuine Mopar pre-diluted with embitterment (to keep animals from drinking old stuff), and I have found Fleetguard in OAT, which showed up after HOAT.

This is at a great price; it even comes in 3-gallon jugs.

Does anyone know what color OAT is, pink or purple?

    Can OAT supersede HOAT?

I decided to poke around some more, it looks like HOAT is the premo stuff, but the OAT last longer.

You are right, do not mix.

From the internet. (but from a reputable site).

Can Oat and Hoat coolant be mixed?

No; HOAT coolants are not compatible with OAT or NOAT coolants and should not be mixed, even if HOAT is a hybrid mix of OAT and IAT coolants.

By mixing these, you may lose some of the valuable benefits of HOAT.

What happens if you mix Hoat and OAT coolant?

Mixing HOAT and OAT coolants can lead to many unwanted results.

For example, it can create a slush-like consistency that can damage your engine.

The HOAT and OAT coolants are not compatible and should not be mixed.

OK, doing some leg work, I was curious when HOAT started and ended and when OAT started.

I went back to 2002 (sure, it was earlier, I didn't look back any further); HOAT was being used up to 2012; then OAT came on the scene for 2013.

HOAT is good for 5 yrs/100K miles, while OAT is longer, i.e., 5 to 7 years, 150K miles.

Our systems from empty hold just a smidge under 6 gallons, so pre-diluted, get 6 gallons.

Concentrate, get 3, but use distilled water.

Suck out the surge/overflow tank too.

I did mine at the 30K mark, so coming close again, time-wise.

I only have 51K on my truck now; I bought it new.

OAT is advertised as a ten-year coolant.

You will only get around 4 gallons in the truck with a drain and fill.

I won’t mess with the 10 yr coolant if your truck calls for 5 yr.

You seem pretty particular, so unless you flush your truck's coolant system with distilled water until it runs clear, you will have old 5yr coolant that will mix.

Let’s say you do get it all out.

You must calculate how much-distilled water is in the engine to get the correct ratio of coolant to water.

Too much thought gets put into making these trucks “last.”

Yeah, I dont mix OAT and HOAT; it came with HOAT, and it's all it will get.

I do drain and fills, no flush, do it before as long as I am adding 75% new stuff all the time; I should be fine at keeping corrosion and sediment at bay.

I buy the premixed stuff, so I pour it straight into the cooling system from the jug.

Oh, for those with EGR coolers, dont forget to bleed it, or it can crack and dump coolant into EGR, then intake and be ugly or even catastrophic if it's enough, i.e., hydro lock.

Yes, been a tech for 43+ years, super fussy and huge on good service, and a stickler for OE parts; OEM stuff is a good bet, be good stuff.

So it's all I use when I can.

    Gotcha.

Congrats on being a tech for that long and at the same place.

I’ve been with Dodge dealerships for 17yrs solely on Cummins and eco diesel trucks for the last 12yrs.

I have my part-time transmission shop, but I am not busy enough in my small rural town yet to go full-time.

I’m hoping to call it quits at the dealership before the electric stuff takes over, but then again, if it doesn’t get better tech-wise, the pay will only go up.

Right on, I'm also a dealer tech, same employer for now going on 35 yrs.

I will be 63 this yr and planning to retire in about 2.5 yrs.

As a dealer tech, can I bend your ear via a few PMs?

    Nothing nuisance-like.

These are just a few questions only a dealer tech can answer, mainly on adding sales codes to my VIN.

    Re: O.A.T. VS. H.O.A.T Coolant?

I went through this with my truck.

The dealer here says he sees this all the time trucks coming in with the wrong coolant.

Unfortunately, colors now have nothing to do with HOAT or OAT.

I used Amsoil OAT, as it was also the only one listed for my truck.

Before becoming a dealer, I used a local Amsoil dealer who tried to push HOAT on me because it said severe duty.

I told him your Cummins year might take it, but mine won't.

He didn't believe me until he pulled it up on his computer and said, " Well, you're right.

I didn't even notice that, and there lies the problem.

It's not his fault; it's simple to overlook nowadays, and everyone changes colors all the time also.
