    VGT /Turbo Issue

I have a 2016 RAM 3500; it was deleted in 2020 with an MM3 tuner with Lite tuning from DRD.

I have replaced the actuator twice, and it looks like it is headed for a third time.

This is my daily driver, and I don't beat on it or abuse it at all, just back and forth to work for about 20 min.

While driving, exhaust brakes work fine, then go to 0% when letting off the pedal.

VGT still runs in the 30% while driving but sometimes goes to 75%.

The codes shown are U010C lost communication with the turbocharger control module and P226C turbocharger boost control slow response.

    Open to ideas and suggestions.

Check your voltage first before buying an actuator.

If one battery is low or dead, buy two new ones.

Lack of voltage will cause our rigs to act funky or throw codes.

If that pans out well, check out the actual vs. desired vein position.

If there is a deviated number with a bit of a gap, it could be the actuator;\.

    Edit:

    @RN126MX

With what you are encountering, I suspect its voltage related.

Thank you, and I will check the voltage and the actual vs. desired.

And the other kicker is my brother-in-law developed the same issue today.

He has a 2016 2500, and we both get fuel from the same place.

Do you think fuel would ever cause this?

I have always gotten fuel from here, and he just started to.

I don't think it fuel related.

U010C lost communication with turbocharger control module, lack of voltage can pop this code up because of a week signal

P226C turbocharger boost control slow response would also fall suite with this and describing the actuator is showing 30 to 75%, its just confused on what its being told to do.

I very well could be wrong on this, but that's where I would start.

    How old are the batteries?

    @AK Bob

Do you have a PDF for trouble shooting for those?

I don’t believe poor fuel will initiate the trouble codes you are seeing.

As mentioned, check the voltage and connections at the turbo actuator.

Did you replace the actuator with OEM or aftermarket?

When you replaced the actuator, did the turbo vane gear on the turbo move from stop to stop smoothly and easily?

See the troubleshooting information on your codes attached.

On the U010C code, the J1939 Datalink circuit may be grounded or shorted by other components on the J1939 circuit, like the upstream NOx sensor, even though it’s currently tuned out.

So batteries might be 3-4 years old, and both replaced together.

This is actuator #3 and is a holeshot, everything moved smoothly

    Re: VGT /Turbo Issue

We have encountered this issue many times where customers will replace the actuator only, and in turn, it's the turbocharger.

A new actuator may fix it for a few months or a year, and then it starts failing due to sticking veins in the turbo.

We have a turbo with the upgraded actuator on it, and it is slightly bigger, so you get a little more pep in your step.

Here is the link to look at it, and if you have any questions, feel free to reach out!

    Re: VGT /Turbo Issue

I have a 14 RAM with the same issues described above, less the codes.

It is the I have replaced the turbo twice and the actuators twice.

I have tried new tuning and still have the same issues.

The actual vs. desired VGT percentage is usually between 1 point.

The truck will run great at 29-30%, then a tone change in the exhaust note.

VGT % goes to around 69% and runs like ****.

I am inclined to think it is bad ground or something electrical.

The turbo manufacturer is at a loss and has never seen this happen.

I have a new lift pump coming this week, and everything less the injectors and CP3 has been replaced.

At start-up and light idle, the VGT % will bounce.

Rail pressure is moving in the same way.

I have been dealing with this issue for over a year.

The tuner says it's the turbo, and the turbo manufacturer says it’s the tuning.

And no local shop will touch it.

    Please help!
