Thread: 2014 Stock RAM 2500 With P003A / P00AF Codes?

    2014 Stock RAM 2500 With P003A / P00AF Codes?

So, after warming the truck up and heading to the store this evening, I got the P003A and P00AF engine codes.

It's hard to tell if the engine is sluggish as the roads are too slick to load the engine, but there is NO exhaust brake.

I got 12 psi of boost in 4WD, so there is something there.

I am looking for any information, recommendations, or condolences.

Just put a spendy clutch in this thing, so another big dollar fix is going to SUCK!

I don't want to treat it as an opportunity to strong-arm the CFO into letting me do a delete, but if a new turbo is in order and stock isn't the right one to go with.

*Edit - OH, and I have been smelling coolant for a while and have no idea where it is coming from.

I read elsewhere someone figured out that a seal let coolant into their actuator and fried it.

I suppose that might be my issue.

I'm not sure how to determine that without dismantling things.

I believe @AK Bob had that issue.

Hopefully, he will chime in soon.

It does sound like an actuator problem.

    How many miles?

Sounds like you may have a bad turbo actuator.

See the attached information on your trouble codes.

My actuator leaked coolant externally and internally between the coolant cavity and the actuator gear cavity.

The best way to check for external leaks is to pressure test the coolant system and visually inspect it with an endoscope camera.

    Thank you for the help!

I will see about getting things checked out.

Will I cause harm if I continue driving it?

Also, what did you do to fix the issue?

    Aftermarket actuator, new turbo?

There is no harm in driving; keep an eye on the coolant level.

Mine was just a tiny drip on the bottom of the actuator, hard to see without an endoscope.

I can dig up the information on the coolant pressure tester and endoscope I ordered from Amazon.

Just let me know if you need it.

So, with the clutch going out on my truck, I learned that the stock clutch only has an 80k to 90k mile life span.

Is there a similar lifespan for a stock turbo?

I would hate to spend a cool G on an actuator only to have the turbo fail in another 10k miles.
