    VGT Turbo/Actuator Finally Went Out!

My VGT finally went out on my 2016 RAM 2500 6.7L Cummins.

The truck was purchased in 2018 with 170K miles on it.

It was deleted at around 175K miles, including EGR removal, DPF and CAT removal, 5" Flo-Pro turbo back exhaust, and an MM3 tuner with Double-R-Diesel tunes.

Since then, the truck has run great, and it now has 240K miles on it.

Just recently, the VGT turbo and actuator started having problems, and the truck cannot be driven anymore.

I've decided that I do not want to replace the turbo/actuator with another VGT (given online research from numerous others), and shortly considered doing a Gen 3 swap before thinking a Gen 2 swap is probably the way to go; that based on some local input from others.

Like almost anybody, I want to get the most power/performance out of the engine as I can with my current setup.

The only other mods I'm considering (depending on budget) would be a Banks Ram intake with heater grid replacement.

Beyond that, I do not plan on doing anything else with the engine or fuel system since this is my daily driver.

The only pulling I do anymore is a 16' car trailer at most, and that's rare.

    I'm also running Nitto Ridge Grappler 35 X 12.50R20.

I'm aware of the risks with the stock tranny, but I will take those risk and replace it in the future if need be, especially since I'm very rarely on the pedal.

Local input from others has suggested I look into Stainless Diesel options, and I called them today to see what they offer.

They provided a recommended turbo and manifold but indicated they no longer offer a G2 kit or piping.

Searching igotacummins site, I stumbled on this discouraging post: https://www.igotacummins.com/threads...Billion-To-EPA!, which made me realize why Stainless Diesel probably no longer offers piping(???).

This government and its EPA are entirely out of control.

At this point, I'm not sure what to do.

I need to get my truck fixed.

    Does anyone have any suggestions/recommendations?

    They would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks and Best Regards,
    Drew

    Look at Industrial Injection.

I run their products with 0 issues to be had.

    @DDP

Do you have connections on your side still for the 2g swap kits?

With your light towing and light foot with occasional heavy foot, I would go with the S464 with the .90 AR housing.

Perfect all-around performance and very reliable.

II 60HP STICKS, II 33% CP3, II S464 2ND GEN SWAP, FASS 165 TITANIUM SIGNATURE SERIES, AFE INTAKE HORN, S&B FILTER, 5" TURBO BACK, ALPHAREX HEAD LIGHTS, 38X13.5X20 RAZOR M/T, MOTO METAL RIMS, 6" LA LIFT KIT, COMPLET MM3 KIT, BUILT TRANSMISSION, 6 BOLT REDHEAD STEERING BOX, YUKON 4.56 GEARS W/ COVERS

I researched, and G2 kits are getting harder to find but still available.

Here is one example that I found.

The City Diesel actuator is a superior replacement for the stock Holset should you continue with the VGT setup.

2014 RAM 3500 (Aisin) 3.73 4X4 Limited Crew Cab Long Bed DRW. Oil Bypass Filter, Fuel Filtration Kit, Cold Air Intake, City Diesel Actuator, Steed Speed Exhaust Manifold, Glacier Diesel Intake Horn and 50 Gallon Aux Fuel Tank.

Re: VGT Turbo/Actuator Finally Went Out!

After intermittent actuator function and several codes, I replaced the actuator with the City Diesel actuator ordered through Gino's.

The installation wasn't too bad, and the test drive thus far seems like a better exhaust brake function.

    I've got a 2014 2500 with 99,000 miles.
