    Might Undo Weight Loss?

I may need to return my truck to a more "factory" setting.

    Has anybody done this?

With all the travel I must do and not wanting to worry about it, I figured I might as well.

I have watched some videos on fuel additives that seem very promising regarding the longevity of the DPF and less clogging of Regens (with some testimonials sprinkled in there, and I'm praying they are real, LOL).

Do you have any thoughts or "things" I should know before doing this?

I'm pretty sure I have all the parts, still.

Why mess up a perfect running truck to put that government-controlling garbage back on?

If you do decide to do this, plan on spending a lot of time at the dealership for CELs, DPF, EGR, sensor issues, etc., and nothing but headaches and downtime unless you have some warranty that will cover that.

Some additives might help keep the soot cookers clean, but I guarantee it's a short-term fix.

I agree with @watersupply189; I wouldn’t recommend returning to stock unless necessary.

A few folks have done it in the past, but usually, because they live in a state that requires emissions testing to register.

Some even went as far as doing it annually, returning the tuning after inspection.

The most significant hurdle they had to overcome was the drive-learn cycle to reset the emissions monitors in preparation for the inspection.

On a more positive note, the good news is that after you have returned to stock, you can have the 67A recall performed and may be eligible for the extended emissions warranty.

See the attached information and policy paragraph at the end.

I'm not concerned about inspections for registration purposes.

    At least not yet.

The 67A extended warranty option makes me consider it even more.

I need to drive everywhere without having an issue, though.

I won't use it commercially, so I have that going for me.

This is mostly spurred by my question about driving to California at the end of June to see a doctor in San Diego.

Nobody had any input, and it got me thinking about returning to stock.

    I was like, "screw it.

I will just put the DPF back on and be done with it." I live in Texas and can hit a highway as often as possible because I-10 is less than 5 minutes from my house.

I take it to and from work every day.

Someone messaged me on Reddit, and they said they had a 07 Duramax that ran dirty his whole time there.

This was back in 2008, so it doesn't even apply anymore.

I can't get current and relevant info, so this is where I am.

Edit: Ya know, I could just do the re-install.

Run it for a bit. If I hate and have issues, I go right back to how it is now.

Update: Gonna shelf this project for a few months.

I extended my trip by one day and decided to just fly and bring my family.

I wouldn’t worry about returning it to stock.

It is California, but if you’re just making a short term doctor visit, I think odds are, you’ll be fine.

Plus as stated above, you’d be sacrificing long term reliability for a short term problem.

    Just my two cents.

Hope the doctor visit goes well.

Driving to CA isn’t enough reason to go through all that work in my opinion.

CHP dudes are always a crap shoot—but they’re a different breed.

Most other cops don’t care or know about what parts may/may not be on your truck.

If you don’t drive like an *** and blow clouds of black smoke everywhere, then you won’t have any problems.

    “I don’t know, officer, I think I might need a tune-up.

It just started doing this the other day, and I’m going to take it to my mechanic as soon as I get back home.”

I ran my deleted trick all through Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Long Island while stationed there for recruiting duty.

    NYPD always gave me compliments.

The only ones that care are your county of registration.

I had NC tags at the time (Tennessee now).

Fed, nuff said. If you have an engine problem and your rig is under warranty.

    I might see your dilemma.

If you are asking this to travel, I would say don't go to California.

Not trying to be a dik, but this isn't the place to ask.

    That is all you.
