    Gear Break-In Procedure?

    Page #18

The question is, I have 85 miles on the new gears, all stop-and-go, full 10-mile trips with a couple of hour cool downs before starting again.

It states that there is no hard acceleration for the first 100 miles but doesn't describe driving habits between 100 and 500 miles or the lengths between cool downs.

I do not want to blow anything up if I can prevent it.

With 101 miles, can I drive how I typically do on a day in day out basis?

I am changing the fluid out at 500 miles with redline full synthetic.

Perhaps I'm just an idiot, and I'm interrupting the break in procuduprocedure?

    Gear Break-In Procedure?

Just took a look at the break-in procedure, and what I got out of it was the following:

Drive the vehicle lightly and follow the cooldown procedure for the first 15 to 20 miles.

Avoid heavy acceleration for the first 100 miles.

Change the oil after 500 miles.

Do not tow until after 500 miles, and follow the cooldown procedure for the first 45 miles of towing.

To answer your question, after the first 100 miles, you should be able to drive normally but not tow.

That's what I was thinking as well.

I just wanted verification from others before I let her rip.

    Thanks, Bob.

That is an excellent link from Yukon Gear & Axle, by the way.

    It was very informative.
