    Truck totally lost its configuration. Unable to communicate via OBD

    Well, I'm getting a but stuck.

    I have a transmission issue (this will be another story).

    Transmission shop said it could be wiring before they would agree to warranty a repair.
    During my check the truck ran fine, albeit stuck in 3rd gear, overdrive. Few codes -Irrelevant to this post BUT.

    During the fault checking, the batteries ran low. Needles swept and naturally not enough juice to start. Batteries off, charged them up.

    At some point, the 4WD, ABS, Airbag and engine light came on and first of odd faults were that the interior lights wouldnt come on. The horn would chirp when I used to lock it, but now it wouldnt.

    Thought it may be still be an issue and the truck went to the autoelectricians to check the wiring from ECM to trans.

    They scanned it while they worked on it and said it had completely lost configuration with an absolute boat load of codes. Yet on a smarty I only got the OD and lockup code.

    Get the truck back from successful wiring check (not wiring) and I scanned it, Correct... AlfaOBD and Appcar both detect it as a Fiat 500!

    Appcar had one code that I cannot get back (lost communication with TIPM flashed up for 3 seconds then went). Appcar cannot connect anymore.

    AlfaOBD can connect, read "some" codes but I cannot configure anything to try and restore it... Fogs don't work, Cruise doesn't work, Idle up, to name some of the configs.

    Long and short, HELP!
    What is corrupted?

    Batteries are good, Wiring load tested, Grounds good.

    Connections on various connectors were all checked and clean. The only green crusty was the +12v on the tipm.

    Transmission issue has been potentially diagnosed as solenoid packs/wiring in transmission.

    Codes were p0973 and p2769. Unable to open the pan as its "warranty" with a 180 mile trip to shop.

    2006 5.9, K&N, smarty tuned com mod, 35x12.5 r20's, Stryker off road control arms, Ranch hand bumper, half black, half raptor lined. Custom twin exit 5" pipes, arp head studs.

    Further proof is identified as a Fiat 500!

    Appcar doesn't let me go further than this. It won't connect to any modules.

    Alfa does, but with limited functionality.

    Just finished reading this thread, and it’s a lot.

    I would suspect that the initial low voltage condition took out the TIPM.

    On your 2006, the TIPM is the central gateway and body control module.

    I would replace the TIPM.

    Yeah, it's a lot.

    Checking the other thread, the tuner can communicate with the ECM for the PC faults.

    I daren't apply a tune to test it, but after reverting it to stock, I'm guessing it communicates OK via OBD.

    I've got a TIPM on order and should be with me by Wednesday.

    I don't know how or why a low voltage would fry it, though?

    I suspect the faulty solenoid may have kept the canbus awake because I could leave the truck for a few weeks sometimes without battery drain, I'd left it for 3 days, and it was down to 9.5v.

    I'll keep you posted!

    Thanks. I tried the "reset" procedure. From 30 minutes to the full week while I charged the batteries.

    Took the tipm out to check all connectors, dismantled it to check for ingress.

    I've been getting intimate with the wiring the past few months trying to get on top of this!

    Update: Arrived home from work this evening to a delivery from Rockauto, one TIPM.

    Installed, and now the truck sees its identity!

    It's no longer a Fiat 500.

    All codes cleared, and Appcar can scan all modules without issues.

    A few grey codes cleared, and the 2 transmission codes are also gone.

    They wouldn't clear before.

    I am hoping it's not the drive cycle triggered.

    I couldn't start the truck because it would wake everyone up! I will find out tomorrow if my transmission issue is sorted, too.

    The result to its lost ID, the 4wd light is lit though, all other alarm lights on the dash were gone and it remembered its config.

    Things are looking promising.
