Hey everyone.
We are on a 3 week camping vacation.
We have a 42ft fifth wheel weighing 16k, and I am towing with a 2015 ram 3500 dually.
I have recently upgraded to banks intercooler, boost tubes, and ram air. I have compound turbos on my truck.
on our way to South Dakota, I am going up a mountain and all of the sudden “whoosh” and boost loss.
I pull over and find that boot on the hot side of turbo connecting to intercooler came off.
my installer put 3 inch spring-loaded t-bolt clamp and torqued to spec. I have pushed maybe 25 psi on my separately installed gauge. Level 0 tune.
this was only the start of my issues.
Over the last 5 days, the boot came off probably around 10 times.
I have tried replacing claims (both a new 3 inch, 2.75 inches, and even tried two 3-inch clamps)
Tried using gorilla tape to create additional surface to clamp.
The 3-inch t bolt would clamp all the way.
Took it to Firestone to have a “technician” fix it.
The boot came off on my drive back to the camp site.
Here is where I am now.
I bought some red rescue tape (silicone wrap) and tightened a 3 inch clamp as tight as reasonable without stripping the nut.
I am running less than 10 psi of boost, and it’s gotten me safely.
At 15, the boot has been falling off. Yes, annoying going 30 mph up a hill, but I’m tired of repairing on the side of the road.
Do you have any recommendations? I’m out of ideas.
The current build seems to hold, but I’m always nervous pushing beyond 10 psi.
Im currently in Salt Lake City and will be leaving for Boise on Tuesday.
If there are any shops or mechanics you recommend, I would be happy to reach out to them.
Some pics for you to see of my encounters with the boost boot.
