    Turbo Noises?

I just did a grid heater delete, and now, when I pass someone when the turbo spools up, it almost sounds like the wheels in the turbo are scraping on the housing.

When I let off the pedal, it returns to a whistle.

I have an S&B air intake that has been deleted with straight 4” pipes.

I’m wondering if the turbo would do this if there is not enough back pressure on the turbo.

There are no other issues, lots of power, EGRs are running about 600-800, no codes, and I have seen boost get up to 35 psi.

The turbo, intercooler, and intake horn are in stock; delete the plate.

    The truck has 112,000 miles.

    Any input would be appreciated.

You may be hearing a small intake air leak despite having a good boost.

I would pressurize the intake air system at the turbo and check for any leaks with soapy water, especially around the grid heater delete plate and intake horn.

Unless you already have a tester or are going to make your own from plumbing parts, this is a good option that I went with.

    Re: Turbo Noises?

I did a grid heater delete and monster ram simultaneously, and my intake got loud, but it's not like a turbo whistle.

It's like a hissing like a boost leak.

I figured it was the monster ram, but maybe we hear the same thing.

I will smoke-test my intake and see if there is a leak, but I am pretty sure there is not.

I had the same hissing sound when I deleted my grid heater and installed a pusher intake horn.

At that time, I had the H&S Mini Maxx tunes.

Six months ago, I installed my MM3 and trans tunes, and the sound disappeared.

    That was my experience.
