    2001 Dodge 2500

I'm looking for a truck for my son, and I met a man with a 01 24v for sale.

The truck is clean with 265,000 on the clock, no blow-by.

The front cover had a bunch of grime, and the oil pan was nasty. He wants 10K. How hard is it to reseal the pan/ cover?

He's got a FASS on it, and the interior is spotless.

    Thanks in advance

Sounds like it may be a good deal.

I would ask how long he has owned it, whether he has any maintenance records, whether it is all stock or has been modified, and how the transmission is.

Please give it a good test drive.

If you decide to purchase it, I will steam clean the motor so you can see where the oil is coming from.

If it's just gaskets, the job should go quickly and will be a good father-and-son project.

Hopefully, others with more experience in the 2nd Gens will chime in.

    He's the 2nd owner since 24k miles.

    It's a manual 5-speed, new clutch.

It's got an AFE airbox on it and some aftermarket intake horn.

The dipstick won't mount, but it drives down the road with good power.

I'm probably going to buy it for the price and condition.

Western truck with no rust at all.

Do you think it's got a good life left with 265?

The steering has the usual slop for a truck of that age.

It's got a steering brace and gauges.

The guy who is selling it just retired and bought a low-mileage 22.

Compared to the few others I have met with lately, I feel good about the guy about some other trucks I was eyeing.

With good fluid record\changes, you can get some heavy miles out of a Cummins.

If it's from an old timer, it's even better.

It most likely hasn't been hot-rodded, and that alone puts a good sense of security in mind that it's most likely been babied.

For its age, most 4th gens have the same or even more milage than they currently have.

I'd be interested in pictures of the body conditions.

Typically, the steering box, tie rods, bushings, and such will be worn out with the associated miles.

This is where the fun begins for me.

It's good to see the Combat Infantry Badge as well, I myself have one as well.

It appears to be in good condition other than just the typical dirt inside, which is being used as it should.

The clutch will have plenty of life left on it.

The FASS system has kept the fuel components safe and provides longevity on the spendy parts.

I'd give it a test drive.

What I'm going to start to do for now is bring a jack with me.

Pick the truck up and try to identify all possible areas to chip away at the price tag.

Wheel bearings can get expensive if doing all 4.

I offered him 10, and he agreed.

    I think it's fair and a pretty nice rig for a 16-year-old.

The kid works hard for me and does well in school, plays ball, and, most importantly.

I'm tired of driving his a**, LOL.

That’s a perfect first time truck for him. I wish I had a truck like that when I was his age. I had to settle for a 65 VW bug as my first. LOL

Yea, I had a pair of chevrolegs. Finally saved and bought a high mileage 84 Bronco 2. I still have the bronco 2. Dana 44 HP front, Ford 9 in the back, 302, c4, atlas 2 T-case on 36s. He agreed to make payments, I'll take care of the insurance. I appreciate the responses. Block says 55 on it for whatever that means. I was told to steer clear of the 53 blocks
