    So It's been acting funny off and on all week, so I finally pulled the pan.

    The fluid looks OK, not much on the magnet.

    But the spin on filter was in the pan!

    I'm hoping I got lucky, and this didn't toast the trans.

    Did it just unscrew, or did the plastic thread adapter break?

    It was in the pan with the plastic fitting still on it.

    Well, it appears to be behaving as well as a stock 68 with 220k on it.

    Hopefully, I dodged a bullet for now.

    Next time you change that filter, get the metal threaded adapter.

    You can put it on a little tighter with no fear of breaking the plastic.

    Also, I'd suggest deleting the thermastatic bypass block.

    Both are really cheap parts, and your trans will run a lot cooler.
