    68RFE Trans Woes?

So I fear that the inevitable is coming sooner than planned.

It's been acting "funny" for a while, but I think the 35s are the icing on the cake.

Long story short, 3-4 shifts are getting worse.

It shudders before the shift, it seems.

Often, it is a long time to build up pressure going to P or R.

Has thrown a P0870 code a few times lately.

There is no real noticeable slipping, and the fluid looks fine.

Is there anything I can really do at this point given the miles?

    2015 3500 4x4, 220k purchased with 170k.

    Haven't serviced trans.

DRD tune with weight loss, 35s.

    Usually run the 30hp tune.

Don't drive like a jackass but will get up to highway speed at a good rate often.

I would definitely do a transmission flush and filter change.

Do you know if the previous owner changed it?

If not, that’s a lot of miles on that fluid.

Gummed up transmission filters will cause an issue with building up pressure fast enough from park, reverse, and drive.

If you go about servicing it yourself, buy OEM filters instead of aftermarket or odd companies.

    I think carfax said 140k, but I don't remember.

I've been meaning to do it, but I've been busy building a house.

    I have the filters.

I should just knock it out this weekend.

    They are Baldwin filters.

    Agree with the recommendations above.

Also see troubleshooting information for the P0870 trouble code attached.

    Well, it gets better.

I've been babying it while doing the relearn just now.

I was backing out of my house, and as soon as I put it in 1st, it threw a CEL.

Same P0870 Transmission Fluid Pressure Sensor / Switch C Circuit

And now P0731 gear ratio error in 1st.

I was at a complete stop when going from R to 1.

    Not ideal.

The output RPM speed is different from the input speed, which causes the mil to appear.

What do your fluid levels look like in the transmission?

    The fluid level is good.

Of course, I just paid the truck off, so this was bound to happen.

Doesn't sound good, see troubleshooting information for the P0731 trouble code.

Well, I cleared the codes and quickly drove to the dump.

On the way back, R and D's engagement was prolonged, and it took a long time to shift into 2nd.

And, of course, it threw the P0870 code again.

I guess I'll see what lies inside the pan this weekend.
