    P00AF and P003A

My MM3 tuner just showed these two codes associated with a check engine light that I have.

I also noticed that I don't have any engine brake.

I've been reading that this might be an actuator?

The truck has about 190,000 mi on it and has never had any turbo-related service to my knowledge.

Any suggestions on how to begin troubleshooting this?

I'm hoping it's something that I can fix myself and not having to replace a turbo or something ridiculous like that.

Can you check what the actual vs desired vane position is.

They should follow each other very closely.

If there's a big value difference between the two, it could be the actuator.

Is this something that is measured in the MM3?

If not, how can I find that information?

I will take a look at this.

Hopefully, it's the actuator as one of those codes says the turbo can't throw it.

Where is the actuator plugged for me to disconnect and check the pins?

Should be the only plug off the actuator on the face of the turbo if you are looking straight through the passenger side wheel well.

Also to clarify, I put the engine brake gauge on my dash to watch it and I noticed that it *is" coming on but very very minimally to the point where I see the gauge increasing, but I don't feel the truck braking nearly as much as normal.

Also, I was searching online for actuators to get an idea of the price, and after some research, it seems like I just replaced my turbo actuator in February of 2023.

I'm guessing a year and a half is a less than ideal shelf life?

    Yes and no.

It’s not surprising; it's kind of like DEF tank sensors.

It’s also dependent on how gummed up the vanes are, if the exhaust brake is used used, etc.

A lot of folks go with the city diesel actuator and never have a problem again.

I needed mine sooner a few years ago and went with an OEM.

I do use exhaust brake all the time.

I'm not sure if that will make that much of a difference.

I'll have to look at those different brands you mentioned.

If I recall, do they need programming when they get installed?
