OK I decided to make my own exhaust brake,
3/8 drill rod
8" piece of exhaust pipe
hardened 3/8 X 1/2 SS bushings
1 block of 1 1/4 X 2 1/2 steel block
1 air cylinder
1/8 plate for disc
Piece of 1/16 for the air cylinder mounting and stops
Miscellaneous hardware.
Objective is 50 PSI of back pressure. The idea is to make something simple anyone can build on a budget
I looked at several designs already made and decided to avod the potential mistakes. One of them uses Bronze bushings. Even the oil bronze is only good to 600 degrees. I'm using Stainless and some high temp silicon grease (Arch oil 1200*F) So far, I have less than a hundred so far. All I need is some 3/16 and 1/4 for flanges.
EDIT I scratched the pipe idea. Harder to mount and more expensive.
I turned down the threads on the one end. It was tough to do. I wanted to make a good looking unit. I think I may let the other end stay the way it is. What a PITA that was. The pipe is +/- .040 in any direction! No precision what so ever. Plan B. Leave it
