Advice About Doing DPF Delete and Straight Pipe Exhaust

My truck's engine light has been on with issues for the O2 sensors and turbo charger. I took it to the dodge dealer(been seeing this diesel tech forever) and the tech called me privately with his advice.

He said my bully dog tuner is causing soot and deposits in my DPF filter and has damaged my EGR valve. His recommendation is to change to a tuner that is capable of DPF delete and do the EGR delete and straight pipe the truck. I called my aftermarket shop and he said he would recommend the same thing. I'm also worried because I know the DPF delete is illegal and don't want any problems. I'm in FL, so there are no state inspections, and I've never had an issue with any cops, but I'd like to keep it that way. Will I have to be paranoid or anything if my truck breaks down out of state, should I avoid other dealers aside from my own?

I've also considered just selling the bully dog and bringing it back to stock and replacing the damaged valve/filters. I know it's going to be expensive either way because my truck is out of the 100k warranty period, so nothing is covered.

    Any thoughts?

    Amanda

I would say delete it all and go strait pipe, keep it on a mild tune, keep in mind head studs are a good investment. I have a 2013 6.7 and looking to get a edge chip, but my 2012 dirtymax (work Pickup) is fully deleted and runs great with good mileage, it get the sh** idled out of it close t0 7100hrs and 90k miles, high idle is key if idleing for long periods of time.

well since all your fixing is coming out of you pocket now I would delete it but would do a exhaust with a muffler straight pipe can get people paying att that you don't need since its loud and cops like to give tickets for loud exhaust just because they can

thanks guys! Sounds like deleting is the way to go. Good point about the head studs...now that I think about it, that's another thing my diesel guy said to keep in mind. Said to keep it off the extreme tune and not drive like a beast and it should be ok after the deletes.

And you don't need the high end head studs the arp 2000 ones are more then enough for anyone. Unless your planning to go crazy with power muhahahaha

You'll do fine on the stock studs and the bully dog. No 1/4 milers at the track though

If you are worried about the legalities. . . . Hollow out the NOX and the DPF and put them back in. (By the way, you can sell the guts. It's precious metals.) You can put a freeze plug in the EGR pipe, at the cooler end. Leave the Cat Converter. Disconnect the flapper and EGR. If you really want to make it breath, do a grid heater delete
