Driving lights & high beams on 2012 Ram 3500

I guess they power the driving lights (fog lights) from the low beam circuit, because every time I turn on the high beams my driving lights turn off. This seems kinda silly because if I'm on high beams there shouldn't be anyone approaching me to get the extra light, but on low beam they do???? I would like the driving lights to stay on for both high and low beam if I select them on. Does anyone have a schematic so I can figure out how to power them from the main headlight feed, so they work high or low beam? I have a Canadian 2012 Ram 3500, which has the daytime running lights, which shouldn't really have any bearing on this question. Thanks.

I used my XRT to keep mine on.... There was a thread on another forum a long time ago that showed how to to do it. It wasn't overly complicated from what i remember. Just tap the high beam wire behind the headlight to a relay and then from relay to foglight. The part I can't remember is where to add the diode to keep from back feeding on the relay when the low beams are on... If I find it I'll let you know...

If I could find the main wire that feeds the headlight Hi/Lo selector switch I could just tap it. Then the light would work on both and still go off with the ignition switch. But I can't find a schematic for my year truck.

That's the issue though, it is all controlled by the computer... Gone are the days where the switch was connected to a set of multi point relays. Same reason why on older trucks you can just replace the flasher relay with one built for LEDs. But on my '12 I had to add resistors to my turn signals to run LED bulbs.

I think it is something you can get done at the dealer they set it up on the computer

It's a federal law. With high beams on, your fogs turn off. its just how they have to make it work. Power wire off one of your high beams. Add a diode. Then to the relay. The powered side goes to each fog light. Then set up the rest of the relay as you normally would. A 4 pin will work fine for this. You will just have to split a wire to each side of the truck. Or get a XRT and it just gives you the option when you tune.

I wanted the option to use my fogs with high beam on my 08 Ram. It was a simple reflash at the dealershiip to add this option for that year of truck. They tell me they can not do it on my 2012 Ram. Nothing within the program to change it. One of the techs where I go for service tried many times to figure it out but no go. He said that a few aftermarket tuners could do it or you could rewire it like mentioned above.

I'm just trying to remember but i believe that the high beam relay is the cause. When the high beam relay turns on it sends power to the ground side of the fog light relay and therefore with no ground the lights shutoff if i could only remember which terminal to cut off of the high beam relay
