Every once in a while my truck will throw a code p0216 injection pump timing failure I know this code can be an indicator that my injection pump is bad however I decided to start with the fuel filter and it was black almost looked like the stock filter!!! The truck has 120,000 on it... I went with a filter from cummins directly not dodge to ensure a quality filter... my question is on a stock truck no fuel mods could that be what's causing the code? With the filter being that dirty could it have been restricting my fuel causing the code??? I know eventually the injection pump will go but im hoping to make it last truck has good power and not sluggish compared to another stock truck... just making sure im not overlooking something

how does it drive w the new filter? vp truck i assume...a dirty n clogged filter will cause this but theres a possibilities such as a bad/on its way out lift pump. what year is ur truck? i kno some have in tank pumps....do u have a fuel psi gauage?

Truck feels a little peppier if that makes sense...it is a 99 and no saving for a fass and gauge truck doesn't surge or loose power no dead pedal ran fine with old filter haven't noticed huge difference

HIGHLY suggest a lift pump an mechanical fuel psi(airdog,raptor,fass preferibly 150gph.) stockers starve the vp. rather spend the money on a good lift pump than a new vp.

I like the start cheap, easy, makes sense, and probably should be done anyway, before looking too far in. Good Call. I will agree with checking fuel pressure.
