Automatic Transmission Not Shifting Out...... 06 Mega Cab 4 Speed Automatic

Finally I signed up on this website and I'm sure glad I did. My issue is on a 06 Mega Cab with a 4 speed automatic transmission. I have had the transmission rebuilt twice in less than 15k miles. The first time cost me $3k, the second was under warranty. Truck is not shifting out properly. After the transmission is warmed up (usually about 15 minutes of driving) the issue occurs. The truck will not shift until around 3,000 RPM, feels like it has a shift kit on it. Sometimes when I'm slowing down, I can feel it down shifting as if it is a manual transmission. I took it back to the shop that did the work and they have changed the shift actuator (not sure if that is the actual name or slang term.) They said they put a heavy duty torque converter in the transmission after the first rebuild. I'm getting a little discouraged but don't want to get rid of the best truck I've ever owned. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should have checked next? Any and all information would be helpful. I'm not a technician but I'm have some mechanical knowledge. Thanks and God Bless. JT

First welcome to the team. Second what did the place say that worked on your truck say when they took it for a drive. I would say they should fix it.

I agree with JJ. As in those regards, if it is rebuilt properly, I have doubt there would be any problems with it. is it possible to have another shop inspect the trans or give it a check, and give their expert opinion? Depending on where you are, I am sure someone could recommend a shop. With a trans, I recommend seeing what others say about the shop before bringing something there.

my next questions are as follows:

1 what gears? as in between 1 and 2 or between 3 and 4
    2 How is reverse?
3 when you go from neutral to rev or neutral to drive, does it feel like it drops into gear a little hard?

Thats all I can think of now. I may have a little bit more to say when I get home.

    Ugh

Sounds like the pressure is too low.

Need more info before I go on. Answer 350's questions first.

I've rebuilt several of those. I have 2 of them in my cars. That one is driven by the ECM. You have any codes?

    WELCOME!

Controlled not driven, never seen a transmission driven by a ECM, however in alot of the dodge transmissions the Solenoids have a tendency to not function properly, they will preform when cold however when everything starts to heat up the resistance goes up for the ohms, another thing you can do and it has happened on a couple trucks i have been around is swap out the rpm sensor on the engine it may not be coding right.

You are right. I need more info on this first. The one he has is the 46 which had the 3 wire connecter on the left side of the trans. It was driven by the ECM in the cars, or a controller in the truck. That same trans was used in the Gas trucks, with few clutches. Us Mopar guys call it a 518, which is a 727 with OD hung on and a lock up converter. Could be a speed sensor too

Thanks, I appreciate the welcome. Well lets see, after I had the transmission rebuilt in January 2012, I had to take the truck back because it was having a hard shift. It would not shift from 2nd to 3rd gear without wrapping out the RPMs. It would get to 3,000 RPM then shift very hard. They said that the transmission would "loosen up" and that hard shift was from the "heavy duty torque converter." I drove the truck up until August 2012 like this until the transmission went out again. When I went to pick it up, the technician showed me a pin that was sliding side to side and he said that was causing the hard shift issue. So they rebuilt the transmission again. I took the truck on a 1500 mile trip the day they finished up. Not pulling a trailer or anything. Truck drove Like a dream. I got home from my trip, about a month later, back to hard shifting. I had the work done at a national chain transmission shop. They gave me a 12k or 1yr warranty which has since expired. What should I do now other than running my rig through their building? LOL

Hard shift is between 2nd and 3rd gear. Reverse works great. When I shift from park to drive, transmission engages. After the truck has warmed up, sitting at a stop light, I can feel the truck kinda jerking. There is some pulsating when it is idling after it heats up. I did take the truck to the local Dodge dealership and they did say it had a bunch of codes. I will stop by next week and get the codes and post on here. I like the idea of taking it to a different shop and having them check it out. Thanks for the help folks.

I didn't see what state you are in. If you are near me, I can direct you to two of the best.

Get a piece of paper and a pen
    get in the cab
flip the ignition key on and off three times rapidly
on the third flip, leave it on and watch the shift indicator for the codes.

I'm pretty sure that function works on your truck

I just finished flipping the ignition three times rapidly, then left the ignition on. No codes were displayed. The check engine light stayed on after the truck cycled through. I'm in Northwest Arkansas.
