    Benefits of straight pipe?

I know my neighbors are getting tired of listening to my truck at 0430 every morning. So I am slightly considering putting a muffler on my truck what are the benefits of a straight pipe vs a muffler? Oh for the ole cranky one its my '13 2500.

There are no benefits that I can think of. Unless you don't like your neighbors and want to continue to be there 430 alarm clock. LOL

^careful with that, funny story(not me), my best friend drives a 13 LML full deletes, yada, yada, yada. Well Duramaxes sound like a damn hair dryer when you start it and he leaves at 0400 for work. Well his neighbor lady called the cops and he had a noise violation warning on his door when he got home. Walked on over and neighbor lady said the truck "whistled" too loud.... The truck whistled too loud... So he called Kory at PPEI and Kory said, let me guess, you live in an apartment and someone called the cops. Bingo, new tune, now the truck doesn't sound like a hair dryer, now she complains it rumbles too loud in the morning. Can't win with this lady, so unless your neighbors love the sound of a Cummins in the morning, I'd watch out for them, you might end up with a visit from the law himself

I am still running the factory muffler but have contemplated going to a bigger muffler after a discussion my wife had with our neighbor. Not that she was really mad or anything... But she was like... "You husband sure leaves early for work some mornings... ". LOL!!!

I've lived in the so call big city and in the country. One of the things people forget is noise travels and at different levels. When in the city it bounces off buildings more and sometimes this causes the sound to intensify. In the country, it will carry further and certain levels will remain while other levels will diminish, but the left over sounds will vibrate through the persons ear.

I was having an issue with my new neighbor who like to start his gasser truck at 2:30 each morning and play that thumping music while it warms. I met him one morning and walked him to my house to listen to what I hear, plus offered the info that when he revs the engine it makes it worse. The noise was vibrating through his head and my house was about 1000 feet from his driveway. He parks his truck in a different place to deflect his exhaust, put on a muffler and starts it differently. Oh, I also downloaded a dosimeter app for my iPhone and he seen the readings he was sending me at that time in the morning, which impressed and embarrassed him.

He was notified this was my way to discuss and see if we can come to an understanding as gentleman, or the next step was either the cops talking to him at that time of the night or I modifying his truck so I can get some sleep.
Be on the recieving end for any length of time and this is a no joke topic when you get no sleep.

Pretty cool that he was open to your conversation. You never know how stuff like that can go. It's nice to see logic and reason prevailed.

The guy is in his late 20's, but I also know the actual owner of the property who is a friend and one of the local sheriffs of the county.
He actually had a choice of discussing this as an adult or would have called the owner.
Even in my late 20's when I was a punk *** kid, I would have choose to listening this out.

Yeah that's why I am wondering if there are any real benefits to it, because if not I would like to put a muffler on. I know it's annoying and I don't want to be "that guy". I sometimes get annoyed at it myself.
