    EGT Probe location and Temps

I was reading on here where If you use the tapped bung for the EGT probe that Sinister puts in there EGR delete kits, that your EGT's are actually 300 degrees cooler?

    Is this correct?
If so what temps do I not need to exceed?

Using Race Me's gauge and probe.

    Thanks in advance,

    Brandon

You want to drill and tap the manifold above the turbo for a good temp from all cylinders.

Understood, but I would like to know what the temperature difference is between those areas?

No idea on that... the risk is a hot cylinder on the other end that you may not see on your gauge.

Tapping into the manifold is definitely the better location for the EGT probe as you're getting the most accurate reading. If you do have it in the block off plate you want to have it on the back plate on the manifold as cylinders 5 and 6 are generally the hottest. The temperatures you see there are roughly 100-150° cooler than the collector but it's slightly different throughout the heat range. So with that being said, the max numbers you'd be looking for are around 1100-1150° sustained but short spikes up to 1500-1600° can be handled.

For the record, the 300° degree difference that you've been hearing is likely pre-turbo VS post-turbo. There's generally a 300° difference between those.

Thank you for that information! I have currently got my EGT probe in the the with the 5th and 6th cylinders. But definitely going to tap the manifold in the near future.
