    Speedo calibration

My '07 has 37 inch tires and the speedo is off. To fix is it mechanical or can I go in to the dealership and have it flashed, is it worth buying a scanner that I can make the change, (I do Have a Edge tuner that I can read and clear codes)

It's a programming fix and unfortunately the dealers scan tool can't recalibrate for 37" tires. A Hypertech Speedometer calibrator is going to be your best option.

How do those work? Do they have to stay in the truck all the time or is it a set it and take it out? Never used one so I'm not sure.

I haven't used the Hypertech one put it should just be a matter of plugging it in, calibrating it, and then unplugging it and it will all work. It's just a simple flash in the ECU.

I think you can use efi live to do the correction. Could be an excuse to chip your truck.

Fine a person with a Smarty that works with your year. All they have to do is hook it up to your OBD2, set your tire size and make sure it is VIN unlocked before removing. It will stay that way until you physically change it again.

When adjusting the tire size, run it on the highway with a GPS unit like a Garmin or similar to make sure it is where you want it. Not hard, just a few minutes time consuming.

But remember this, the stock speed-o shows 70 when your actuating doing 68.
Something the fed's wanted from back in the 50's and had the manufactures do since.

FYI: the last time I did this for someone it cost them a cup of coffee before we went home.

Is the edge an actual tuner or just the gauges? I ask because I have an older (non CTS) tuner on my 07 and I can calibrate my speedo. Maybe yours has the option buried in the settings.

You can calibrate the tire size but only on the Edge, it doesn't change the speedo on the vehicle.

    Re: Speedo calibration

Last I read, when you change the tire size, you've changed the computer system perimeters, that converts the transmissions information to read for the new tire size, and the speedo indicates that. It's like in the old days of changing the gearing in the trans to send the different speed through the cable to the speedo. I guess you can say it doesn't change the speedo, but the speedo reads what the trans sends the computer and the computer sends to the speedo to show. So by changeing the tires size on your truck, through Smarty, Edge, whatever you have that can do it, you've changing the speedo.

Or am I miss understanding what you're saying ?
