    68RFE coolin line popped off

So this happened on the way home from our camping trip this weekend, about 45 minutes from home. I'm already starting to think my truck is allergic to the new camper.

The top cooler line on the side of my trans popped out, with the snap ring still in place. Of course it still appeared as though it was in place and given the angle i could get under there at it didnt appear that either of the lines were leaking.

We were just coming out of a small town, getting back up to speed. As best i can figure it either happened randomly, or when the truck shifted into 5th gear. Towing 17k I lock it down to 5th, and was watching traffic more than anything at the time. But it was definitely at some point between 4th and 5th on this little stretch.

My main question i guess is this: is there something i could have done to cause/prevent this? Ive never heard of this happening or being a possibility before. I drive it easy, especially when towing, to avoid problems.

Without knowing of it was a defect in the line or what, what could you have done ?
It looks like it's a 2013, was any work done on it or near it that could have weaken the line or kinked it ?
Normally, the lines and fittings are fine for years, or until working on or near it occurs and damage is done with or without knowledge.
Sucks when your so close to home.

This is why I wish mine was a manual trans.

We did remove the exhaust a couple months back, which involved taking off the bracket that also holds the trans lines (briefly). If that was the cause then at least it shouldn't be a problem anymore once i get all new parts put on today. I was more concerned with any other causes it could have been, so that if it was me doing something wrong I could correct it. It was definitely a sickening feeling pulling the camper with the wife, 3 kids, and 2 dogs, and then having to emergency stop and seeing that. I would definitely do anything I can not to go through that again. Thank you for your response, it made me feel better about the idea that once I get the parts and fix it today it shouldn't be a problem anymore.

Please use the old saying of working with wood ... measure twice, cut once.
Walk it through first, verify .. then install. (verify before considering it done).

    Good luck !
