New to the forum doing Chevy Cummins swap

    Hey everyone,
I'm not exactly new to the Cummins world. We run them in everything at work. I have a 1997 Chevy 3500 4x4 dually 5 speed BB gasser that has been great. I moved from Alaska to Florida with it. Total weight truck and trailer scaled in at 36,600lbs. Not bad for the old beast. I havn't driven the truck regularly in a few years and it needs new gaskets. The engine will need to come out to do all of the repairs I want like broken exhaust bolts, refinish the heads, oil pan gasket, timing chain cover gasket and so on. Started looking at superchagers and figured I would reattack my goal years ago and just put a 12valve Cummins in it. I found a few decent deals around town but havn't pulled the trigger on one yet. In short, I joined to get some support and guidance on the swap. I will be moving my family back to Alaska early next year and need the truck to do some heavy work once again. I'm looking forward to your input and suggestions.

Re: New to the forum doing Chevy Cummins swap

    Thanks all,
Palmer, just north of Anchorage. I try to stay out of the city as much as I can. So who knows the most about doing the mid 90's Chevy/Cummins swaps? Redden3056 has a nice swap. Is there anyone else I should check out? This is my first Cummins swap. By far not my first engine swap. Have done a lot of V8/big block, fuel injection swaps so doing mods is not new. Thanks again.

    to our forum @Sxe111

Alaska to Florida ... the ice box to the oven .. now THAT is a change !
AND back again .. ya must love to travel !

Havent touched a Chevy since the mid 80's. But I'd suggest looking into the 5.9, say 'round the '05 - '06. Parts should be easy to come by back home and not to new for any smog stuff.
